Dar al-Ifta (Fatwa Department)
In an Islamic society, fatwas (legal rulings) play a vital role in providing religious guidance and addressing contemporary issues through an Islamic lens. The Dar al-Ifta department was established at Jamia Abi Bakar Al-Islamia as part of its foundational structure, with esteemed scholars assuming the responsibility of issuing fatwas in accordance with the Quran and Sunnah.
Since 2006, Mufti Muhammad Sharif bin Ali Baltistani has been leading the department. He is a graduate of Dar al-Uloom Baltistan and the Islamic University of Madinah (Faculty of Shariah) and holds a higher diploma in Judicial Studies and Islamic Political Science from Madinah.
Key Achievements:
- Issued thousands of fatwas based on the Quran and Sunnah.
- Some fatwas have been referenced by local courts in legal and religious matters.
- Provided religious guidance to various international institutions, including the Islamic Community Institute in London.
- Facilitated the conversion of numerous individuals to Islam.
- Offered spiritual and legal counsel to thousands of people seeking religious guidance.
What Sets Dar al-Ifta Apart?
The department ensures that all fatwas are issued strictly in accordance with the Quran and Sunnah, following the understanding of the Salaf (early generations of Islam). This adherence makes Dar al-Ifta a reliable and authoritative source for Islamic legal rulings.
